Due to its high content in phytoestrogens (triterpenes glycosides: actein and cimicifugoside and isoflavone: formononetin), Black Cohosh offers undeniable advantages when chosen as hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Black Cohosh helps to restore hormonal balance in order to relieve unpleasant discomforts such as hot flashes, night sweats, anxiety, etc.

Various research have validated the benefits of Black Cohosh for the relief of physical and psychological menopausal symptoms.

An experiment conducted in Germany on Black Cohosh, composed of 131 doctors and 629 female patients, demonstrated an improvement of over 80% of women suffering with menopausal discomforts. Forty two percent of these patients declared having no longer symptoms of hot flashes, night sweats, profuse perspiration, headaches, vertigo, heart palpitations, ringing in the ears, nervousness and irritability, sleep disturbances and depressive attitude. The benefits of Black Cohosh were felt within a period of 6 to 8 weeks.

Another experimental double-blind study involving 80 patients suffering from vaginal atrophy was conducted in Germany to evaluate the influence of Black Cohosh versus estrogenic substances on the vaginal linning. Women either received Black Cohosh, conjugated estrogens or a placebo. After the twelve week study, the results indicated that the group who received Black Cohosh showed a dramatic increase in the number of superficial cells compared to the other groups which showed little effect.

Black Cohosh has demonstrated the therapeutic actions to supress the luteinizing hormone (LH) which is responsible for hot flashes and night sweats.
