Properties of the ingredients

Wild fish oil blend (mackerel, anchovy, sardine, tuna)

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA): an omega-3 fatty acid, is mainly concentrated in the brain and retina cells. It has been recognized as essential for infant brain development and retinal function. Studies of preterm infants have shown the importance of dietary DHA in learning. DHA has further been shown to play an important role in treating ADD/ADHD.

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA): also belongs to the omega-3 family and is essential for the production of anti-inflammatory compounds. DHA and EPA are found primarily in cold water fish such as mackerel, sardines, anchovies and tuna.

Borage oil (Borago officinalis) (20% GLA): Omega-6 fatty acids, particularly dihomo-gamma linolenic acid (DGLA) and gamma linolenic acid (GLA), the precursor to DGLA, also play an important role in healthy brain function. Researches have shown a DGLA deficiency in children with hyperactivity. Valuable quantities of GLA are found in borage and evening primrose oil, with borage being the richest source, containing 20% GLA.

Certified Organic Flax seed oil, (Linum usitatissimum) Cold Pressed: Another omega-3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), is found in high quantities in flaxseed and flaxseed oil. ALA is the parent omega-3 and precursor to EPA and DHA. Experimental studies have shown that ALA supports learning and memory. ALA is metabolized into DHA, providing additional benefits to the brain.

Soy lecithin (Glycine max, bean): rich in Phosphatidyl choline (PC) which can be found in soy lecithin, is a component of all cells in the body. It also acts as a source of choline which is the starting material for the synthesis of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in learning and memory. Studies have shown that supplementation with PC helps in learning and memory.

Vitamin E (d-alpha-tocopherol) : Vitamin E is a valuable additive to any EFA oil, as it helps prevent oxidation of the oil.

1-How do I know how much to give to my child?
It is recommended to start with 4 caps in younger kids and 6 caps in older adults. However, if your child does not show any improvements within the first month, it can indicate that your children require more omegas than others. If so, it is possible to increase to a dosage a higher dosage of 6 caps.

2-How long does it take for Genius to take effect?
Parents notice the beneficial effects as soon as the second week: the child is calmer; has a greater ease to complete homework and is less anxious in social situations and exams. Brain function, such as concentration and focus, also improves in the first month and leads to better school results within the second month. However, your child may not show symptoms as quickly, some children require more omegas than others. If so, it is possible to increase to a dosage of a full spoon or of 6 caps.

3-Should my child take Genius all year-round or take breaks during the summer for example?
Children can take Genius year-round without a problem. It may be preferable in children who have anxiety, sleeping, skin or irritability issues.

4-I have been giving my child the smallest dosage for 2 years now, should I up the dosage since he is growing?
Health Canada has approved a dosage of 4 to 6 capsules for kids between the age of 6 to 18 years old which means it is safe to increase the dosage to 1tps or 6 caps per day. Nevertheless, it is not necessary to up the dosage simply if your child is growing. The increase in dosage is usually warranted when signs of deficiencies start appearing; which would mean the child’s body is now requiring more omegas then previously needed to function adequately.

5-My child is 6 months old; can I give him the Genius?
At this age, children have a very sensitive digestive system and do not digest fats very well. At this stage, it’s best to give them foods that are high in omega (avocado, almond butter, etc.). If you are breastfeeding, even better! You can take Genius Mom and Baby yourself, it’s a formula exclusively designed for this purpose, and the benefits of the formula will be transmitted through your breast milk.

6-Should I be worried about contaminant found in fish?
Not with Nutripur! All of our oils are rigorously tested for contaminants and toxins (pesticides, solvent residues and heavy metals) and rated by a third party international organization IFOS to ensure that GENIUS is pure and safe. 7-How can your fish oil be free of mercury if it comes from fishes, like tune, which are known to contain a lot of mercury?
To obtain the essential fatty acids (DHA & EPA) from tuna or any source, an extracted process is involved. Tuna oil can therefore be purified and is not comparable to food. In addition, every batch of Genius produced is tested and rated by a third party international organization IFOS. GENIUS always receives a 5 on 5 star rating with its IFOS certification! Which means it is analyzed and has surpasses the industry standards for contaminants (Total PCBs, Dioxins, Furnas, Dioxin-like PCBs, Mercury, Lead, Arsenic, Cadmium, etc.).

8-I read that Borage Oil can contain a harmful substance called pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs).
Yes, it can occur in borage oil. This is why we get our oils tested for any toxins or heavy metals. Our oils are IFOS certified and we can guarantee that GENIUS does not contain any PAs.

9-Does Genius contain any food coloring or artificial flavours?
No, Genius does not contain any artificial colours or flavours. To make it more palatable for kids we have added stevia and natural orange extract flavor.

10-My child is currently on ADHD medication; can he take genius as well? How do I time his medication?
Yes! We have had multiple positive reports of children adding Genius to their conventional medication regimen. Genius is additionally beneficial since it helps reduce the secondary effects of conventional medication such as low mood, loss of appetite, isolation and insomnia. Genius does not change the absorption or the effect of any medication. It can therefore be taken simultaneously, preferably in the morning.

11-My child has been taken Genius in conjunction with ADD/ADHD medication for over a year now; can I reduce his ADD/ADHD medication?
Changes to posology of conventional medication should be discussed with your doctor with whom a new evaluation will be made to adjust medication, if necessary. Nonetheless, we do have reports of children being able to reduce conventional medication after a strict regimen of taking Genius for a prolonged period of time!

12-What are the signs of omega deficiencies?
-EYES: Dry, itchy eyes.
-HAIR: Dry, brittle, dull or lifeless hair, recurrent dandruff and hair loss.
-SKIN: Dry, cracked, rough, itchy, flaky, or ‘bumpy’ skin.
-NAILS: Slow growing, soft, splitting or fraying nails.
-EARS: Excessive earwax buildup.
-EMOTIONAL SENSITIVITY: longer or more frequent periods of low mood, anxiety, irritability, mood swings.
-CIRCULATION: Cold hands and feet
-BRAIN FUNCTION: Distractibility, poor concentration and difficulties holding information in mind.
-TIRED: Daytime fatigue and difficulties with sleep (especially settling at night and early waking).
-DEHYDRATION: Excessive thirst and frequent urination.

13-I was told I could give Genius to my child for his anxiety.
Yes, Genius has been shown to have great beneficial effect on anxiety issues! The formula is made to help soothe the nervous system and temper emotional surges. By doing so, the child will feel calmer and will cope more easily when faced with emotional stressors such as written or oral exams, athletic performances and even social interactions (like changing schools).

14-Can Genius help my child sleep?
Yes, Genius soothes the nervous system to allow kids to access their sleeping cycle and stay in a recuperative sleep throughout the night.

15-My child has a very hard time sleeping and Genius seems beneficial, should I give it to him at night instead?
Genius can be taken at any point during the day and can be taken at night, if more convenient. The effects of genius are cumulative; changing the time of day will not greatly affect any improvement. If your child is 14 years and older, you can try adding Somerol before bed. It is a natural plant supplement that helps the body reach a deeper sleep with is needed to recuperate properly.

16-Is the product less effective if my child swallows the capsule without the chewing it?
No, as long as the liquid inside is swallowed, it does not affect the effectiveness of the product

17-My child is not very good when it comes to swallowing capsules, how big are your capsules?
Our capsules are about 1 cm cube, so very small and they are also chewable with a delicious, creamy orange flavor that kids love.
